The main reason for that was we packed up most of my paper craft items so that we could put our house on the market. That did not turn out quite as we had planned. Our house was on the market for 1 year without a single offer. I was very sad that the house did not sell but I keep trying to be positive. We have tossed around putting it back on the market since but wanted to wait until after the holidays. So the holidays are over and the market is worse now than it was then so we are waiting. In the mean time, I have lived without my paper craft supplies long enough. As soon as we have a day that is warm enough, my husband can go get them and bring them home, I will be sending him out the door (*wink*) as fast as possible. Until then, hang in there with me.

While I'm posting, I thought I would share the cake I threw together at the last minute for my hubby. I have fibromyalgia and have not been feeling very well and did not feel like baking him a real cake and he didn't want me to buy one. I thought he needed something with candles on it anyway; this is what I came up with. He loves mini snickers so I decided I would somehow make him a cake using them. Once I put a plan together in my head I thought it would be quick and easy. It turned out to be a little tougher and it took longer than I thought it would. When I first tried to make a hole in the snicker for the candle, the snicker crushed. Wasn't quite the look I was going for??? So I went and found a small round kitchen utensil and heated it up with hot water, dried it off, stuck it into the snicker. Success! Then I warmed the bottom of each snicker and put them in place on the plate, voila. I had to have some of my stuff back. I just really need to feel like me again. I only have 1 more week of school left for the semester and it was starting to sink in, when school is over I won't have anything to occupy my time. So, I decided that it was time to unpack just enough stuff to keep me occupied. You can't even imagine how fun it was. It didn't even matter to me that I didn't have a lot of my stuff I was back in my element. Whoo hooo!!!

I started working on a chocolate lovers gift pack, I will have to show it to you when I finish it. It's still a work in progress. In the mean time I found out that one of the girls I work with grandfather passed away. Now that I have some stuff I wanted to make a card for her so here it is. What do you think?

This card is lots of layers of many coordinating pieces of paper. Super simple and fun. Here is the card ingredient: Cardstock: Bazzill, Pattern paper: K & Company, Stamp: DRS Designs, Accents: paper clip: K & Company, brads & jumbo eyelets: Stampin' Up!, ribbon: various.

Sweet Baby Girl!

Happy Easter Everyone!

It's a good thing I made some projects that I hadn't ever posted. That way I have stuff to post now, while I'm waiting for our house to sell. When I did this project a year ago, wow time flies *wink*, it was the first time I had ever tried adhering rub-ons to glass. If you haven't tried it yet, what are you waiting for??? It's super easy. I love making baby stuff and this was sooooooooooo much fun. I used Brenda Walton's Small Wonders set for the entire project.

How Many Colors Can You Name In 5 Minutes?

31

Click the link above to play. Unfortunately I can't remember all the details for the ingredients but the ice cream is pink stickles *smile*. I would like to post a little more often but there seems to be a lot of other things getting in the way.

Reasons for not posting. Number 1, I packed up my stamp stuff and started staging our house to put it up for sale, last June. We did a ton of things to the house because the competition is so fierce here. New hot water heater, new furnace, new carpet in our basement, new light fixtures, new windows, new stainless steel appliances, new paint on the walls and then we staged everything. All of this was keeping me busy so it didn't bother me to much that I wasn't able to stamp. We finally listed our house in October hoping it would sell quickly. It still has not sold; the market here in WI is awful. There are about 100 other houses in the same price range Soon after it was listed, the holidays were upon us and I was busy with all the stuff that goes along with it. Number 2, I decided to go back to school. I signed up for 6 credit hours of class this semester and it is really kicking my butt *wink* I don't think it would be as bad if work wasn't so draining. It has been very stressful and demanding. I leave there and go to class 2 nights a week for 3 hours, yuck! My weekends are spent doing home work, no time for fun then either. I keep telling my self it will all be worth it in the end. Number 3, my family, with so little time leftover I do what I can to spend some time with them. Cross your fingers for us to sell the house soon so I can move into a new stamp room. If it doesn't happen soon I may go crazy *double wink*

Ok, now that you know why I haven't been posting we can get on with my post for today. I made this card for my husband last Valentines day and although it a year old I still like it. The Oct/Nov issue is on news stands and my project is in it.

The selected project was Tootsie Roll Banks I made into Halloween favors. I think I was just a little overwhelmed with writing down all the details that go along with this one. If I forget something just send me an email. I used my 3 X 3 gift box pattern to make the box and then added the pattern paper. I punched out 3 black suede flowers, stacked them up and added a brad to decorate the flap. Around the bottom of the box I added a piece of dandelion green ribbon with a piece of black velvet ribbon and a buckle. For the closure I used a little Velcro circle.
Once the box was complete it was time to make some cards to fill it. I wanted the cards to all have a different purpose but didn't want to use to many different stamp sets. Searching through my sets I pulled out 2 that I thought would work. One was an old set but I always liked it and hadn't ever used it much. It was time to get the rubber dirty ;) I stamped the little duck, colored it in with watercolor pencils, punched it out and layered it with cardstock. Then added it on top of the polka dot paper. Added to word window punch strips and brads to complete the card.
For the next card I used the little RX bottle, stamped it and colored in the heart with watercolor pencil. Punched it out and layered it with black suede paper (love the suede paper), Stamped the side of the card with a sentiment and added suede and pattern paper to the bottom. Then finished it with a couple of brads.
Card number 3 was done with the same stamp set as the first card. I stamped the design with black ink and then colored it in. Punch another square from black suede, cut in half and added to the corners of the card. Wrapped dandelion green ribbon around the card. Punch a scalloped square from striped paper and layered it with the stamped piece.
Card number 4, going back to the same stamp set used in card 2, I stamped the clock and colored it in with watercolor pencil. Punched out the image and layered it with square and scalloped squares. On the bottom of the card I added a piece of stripped paper and 2 brads, then stamped "celebrate". Using Karen Foster snap stamps I added "time to". To finish everything off each envelope was stamped with a matching sentiment.
Project ingredients: cardstock Bazzill Basics Limeade and Kachina. pattern paper Paper Salon "harmony" stripe, petite paisley, fancy dot, Hot Off The Press black suede. hardware Bazzill brads "lizard", Elements brads "black and green", Stampin' Up! buckle "pewter". stamps Stampin' Up! Only to find out my brain is still stuck in wedding mode. Oh well, sometimes you just have to go with what you are handed. I also seem to be stuck doing square cards. I just like the size and feel of them I guess.
I took a piece of the soft sky cardstock and ran it through my cuddle bug using the textile embossing folder (another favorite *wink*). I added a piece of striped sky pattern paper along the side of the embossed cardstock. Love the stripes! Then using my slit punch I made a scalloped edge out of black cardstock. On-top of the black cardstock I added the Now and Forever fuzzy rub on (looks much better IRL). Then layered it over the two sky pieces. Stamped a 2 ¾ inch white circle with The Greatest Love stamp and layered it with black cardstock. She was such a beautiful bride! The wedding went off without error but there seemed to be a little cloud hanging around causing problems now and then. First, the flower girl and her family did not get to come because their plane was canceled due to weather and they were not able to get them on any other flight. At least she knew a day ahead and had time to find a replacement. Second, the weather was awful right before the wedding. It was pouring rain and the streets were flooding, making it difficult for some people to get to the church. Third, the priest starts the service and he calls my niece by the wrong name, oops!!! The priest has known her for her entire life. Other than that, I thought the day went really well. The happy couple is off on their honeymoon for a week of fun together. I love weddings…

I'm Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm back! I know it seems like I've been gone for a really long time (it has felt like forever to me) but I had a good excuse. I have so little spare time, since I still have to show up at work in order to receive a paycheck, funny how that works *wink*. Anyway, back to my spare time, what little time I have had lately, I have totally devoted to my nieces fast approaching wedding. Save the Date, Invitations, Reception cards and favors. She's having a huge wedding, 250 of everything.

Silly me, when I designed the card I decided to sew a pocket on the inside. Let me tell you, one card, oh that was fun but after the first 50 it wasn't fun anymore. My friends kept asking me if I was insane. I decided I must have been because no one in their right mind would volunteer for something like that. They were my wedding gift to her and her fiancée. My niece was thrilled with them so that made me feel good.

I will be leaving to go to the wedding but I don't plan on abandoning my blog again for so long. For those of you still waiting for the tutorial on the keepsake boxes I haven't forgotten so don't despair.

It's time for another blog candy winner, YEAH!!!!!!

I think my nine year old likes blog candy just as much as everyone else does. I put everyone's name in a basket and she gets to draw the name. When you are nine, drawing is as much fun as winning, I guess.

Now, for my answer to the question, what gets in the way of my paper crafts projects? My list is very long and very short whichever list you want to look at. The short list is everything!!! The long list is: my job, my family, our dog, laundry, cleaning, gardening, boating, grocery shopping, bloging, and so on. I don't want it to sound like I don't care and enjoy some of the items on my list. I wouldn't trade my family for the world but sometimes I just want to have me time. I also feel really guilty some times for having me time and leaving them out so it's hard to find a good balance. Whichever side of the fence I am walking on I am so glad that I have found something that I enjoy doing as much as I enjoy this.

Now for the winner. Drum roll please…the winner and her comments:

Peggy Maier said...

Two people! Well 1 person & a "dog". Don't tell him though, he thinks he's a person! Every time I start crafting, my hubby thinks he has to come talk to me. Once he's gone, here comes the dog - sits by my knee & stares at me (wanting to go out). Is there anything more disconcerting than knowing something or someone is staring at you? If the staring doesn't work, he jumps up on my leg & begins to whine. With these 2, I just can't win (or craft!)

February 18, 2007 7:32 AM

Peggy, send me an email with your snail mail address and I'll get your stamps in the mail to you.

Congratulations to both our blog candy stamp winners!!!

Are you guys just dying???

In case you didn't notice from my picture I am blonde and not just from a bottle, they go all the way to the root. Ok, I've admitted to that, now for the biggie, I totally forgot that I was supposed to post the winner this morning. WHAT!!! How could you forget something like that? Well, I could go into a long drawn out story explaining how it all happened but I think most of you would prefer that I announce the winner.

Before I do though, I thought it only fair to tell you what my all time favorite stamp (set) is and what I like to do the most. My favorite stamp? Like most of you, this is a hard one. There are so many to choose from. I don't think I could pick just one but I did narrow it to 2, paisley and art of life. Both retired L As for question number 2, that is a little easier. I love doing 3D projects, anything that could be used as a gift. I do a lot of cards and scrapbook pages, but my passion is 3D.

Now for the moment you have all been waiting for, the winner of the blog candy is: heather l Here is her post:

heather l. said...
Hi!
My favorite set is probably the Art of Life which was a hostess appreciation set. I also love Little Pieces and all of the 'circle-y' kinds of sets recently. I definitely make more cards than anything else. I'm a swap-aholic and proud of it!
Thanks for the awesome blog candy!
Heather

Heather send me an email with your snail mail address and I'll send you your new stamps.

Thank you all for playing!

What's better than Blog Candy? I wanted to make some cute treats but my brain just refused to come up with anything. So in a last ditch effort this was what I came up with. I just used a medium cello back and then made a topper for it. Oh, and if you were wondering, yes, that is the Cloud 9 paper again. I'm totally in love with it. This time I used 2 of the papers that did not have the embossing on them. I love to add sewing to my projects. I think it gives them just a little something extra. I sewed around the edges on both the front and back. On the back side I cut 2 slits in the paper so I could slide a little tag down in between. On the tag I added the To~From along with Love and a little Heart Envelope.

Hmmmmm, I wonder how many of these I'm going to need to throw together last minute?

Additional photos of this project can be viewed in the Valentine Treat gallery.

Valentine Card Tote II

A local scrapbook store where I live is carrying my keepsake boxes. I thought it would be nice to make a Valentine Tote so they could have a finish box for display. The paper I used is mostly Cloud 9. I love this paper, it is embossed and glittery and is a nice heavy weight. I also used black suede paper which is a little tricky to work with, you have to be careful not to get any glue on it. Other than that it was a fun project and I really enjoyed doing it. The little envelopes I made with my wishblade. I haven't used it all that much since my husband got it for me but I love playing with it when I get the chance. I also used it to cut the heart shapes I used in the heart shaped metal frames. I used velvet pink ribbon on the inside, which I thought looked really pretty with the black suede paper. I thought it would be good to give you a little back ground about the boxes and add a gallery where you can view different ideas of what you can do with them. The new gallery is Keepsake Box Ideas.

My custom box story:

Several months back I went in search of a box that I could decorate with scrapbook paper and use for a baby keepsake box. I found that to be easier said than done. I searched and searched and the best I could find was a cigar box. Not really what I was looking for. So I decided to check into having them made. Most of the places I called would not make them unless I had a minimum order of 5000. Well, needless to say I did not want 5000 boxes. One of the companies I called did give me the name and number of a place that might be willing to take my small order, so I called them. Their minimums were much less, so I gave them the design information in order for them work out a quote. With the quote in hand, I went to my husband to see if he might be interested in helping me finance my new little venture. It took some convincing but he came around. Once that was done, they made me a few sample so I could see what I would be ordering. I approved one of them, sent my money in and they started making my boxes. About 2 weeks later my order was complete and they shipped all of them to me.

At this point my husband was wondering what I had gotten him into. After I decorated a few of them and he saw the different things that could be done he was a little less skeptical. Now my problem changed from wanting a box I couldn't find to having tons of boxes and how to market them with out it costing me a fortune. After trying several different things, my blog seemed to be the most economical. The fewer boxes you order the more they charge for each box, so the boxes already cost a little more than if a large company had them mass produced. I have tried to keep the cost as low as possible and the boxes are a very nice quality and are quite sturdy. The people that have purchased and used them have told me they were very pleased at how they turned out and it was really not very difficult at all. If you purchase one of these boxes, I think you will really enjoy the end result and have a hard time parting with it if it's for a gift.

I love hearing back from people that have purchased my products or used my patterns, so please feel free to leave comments or send me an email.

Valentine Card Tote

I wanted to make something for my daughter to carry her Valentines to school in and this is what I came up with. It was really pretty easy to do. I used a white keepsake box. To make the edges of the box match the project I used a cosmetic sponge and craft ink refill. Just put a little craft ink on a plastic disposable plate and then dip the cosmetic sponge and wipe on the edges of the box. I did this process in two settings letting the first section dry before going on to the second. To speed up the process you could use a heat tool to dry each section. I then cut the pieces for each section and dry fit them, just incase I had made a mistake. Once I had all the pieces I need I then started adhering them to the box. I like to start on the inside and work my way out. On the lid inside and out I added any embellishments that needed to be added before adhering the lid pieces to the box. Now you can add any additional embellishments you desire to complete. On this box I wanted to make it as easy as possible for my daughter to open and close so I drilled a hole in the center of the front side of the box and inserted a small disk magnet. I used a piece of ribbon for the second magnet and adhered that to the lid before adding the cover.

Additional photo of this project are in the Valentine Card Tote gallery.

Note: Once you have added the piece of paper that goes over the spine on the outside you will need to leave the box closed until the glue has dried to insure the paper stays adhered.

My daughter loves it and is very excited about taking her Valentines to school in it. Now that her tote is made we will have to come up with some cute valentines to put in it.
If you are interested in the boxes you can see them in my Pepperberry Keepsake Products gallery, a supply list and patterns come with the box. Why don't I every have enough of it? Why does it go so slow when I'm at work and so fast when I'm at home?

I've been asking myself these questions lately. I have so many things I want/need to do but there just doesn't seem to be enough time to get them all done. I'm sure there are a lot of you out there that can relate to my dilemma.

Right now I am working on a scrapbook for my Aunt. I am really enjoying working on it and I have put off doing it for 2 years now. Shame on me!!! I would rather work on Valentine stuff though and I know the closer it gets, I will set aside the scrapbook stuff and dive in, which could happen sooner rather than later. It seems this time issue is a constant problem for me. Maybe when I retire I won't feel this way but for some reason I have a feeling that the issue will be the same only the interference will change. Fortunately/unfortunately it will be years before retirement so I'll just have to wait and see.

A little info about the pages posted today, my Aunts scrapbook. My Mom, whom I miss terrible died about 15 years ago. She was a triplet. My Aunt who is the only one of the 3 still living is my living reminder of my Mom. Which is also, good and bad. It is so cool to see and hear her it is almost like seeing and hearing my Mom but it also makes me miss Mom too. Two years ago my Aunt came to visit us in Wisconsin. It was great, I loved having her here. While she was here I showed her the picture I had of them from when they were little. I was surprised to find out that some of the pictures I had were pictures that she did not remember seeing and she asked me for copies of them. I made the copies and decided I didn't want to just send her the pictures I would make a scrapbook for them and send them to her in it. It's been 2 years now and I'm just getting it done and I'm feeling very guilty about it. I hope to finish it soon but here are 3 of the pages that I've done so far.

As I get the pages done for her album I will post them. Most of the rest of the pages will be blank. That way she will be able to add the photos she wants to. I had a really hard time deciding on what colors to use. When I make something for someone else I always worry about that. I think sometimes it would be much easier to just let them pick out the colors themselves but when you're making something as a surprise it makes it impossible. I'll just cross my fingers and hope she likes it. I guess the only thing I would really like to change is instead of making 1 album I wish I was making 3 one for each of them, especially 1 from my Mom. I'm sure she would have loved it. 3 down 17 pages to go, wish me luck. I'll need it, that little nagging voice is still haunting me, valentines, valentines, valentines. LOL

My first blog...

Ok, ok, ok, I realize that I should have started this a year ago when I was thinking about it but I just never took the time to do it.
